Agritourism and biological farm on Saint Francis trail in Umbria Splendidly situated on the top of a hill, this agritourism offers a panoramic view over the natural Umbrian hills around Valfabbrica. There are three comfortable apartments that sleep 2 + 2, all three furnished in the "arte povera" style. This organic agritourism is one of the view real agriturismo remaining in Umbria, still holding on to the idea of hospitality on a working farm. In one building, the agritourism has 3 apartments, each with one bedroom and the possibility to have two extra people sleep on the very comfortable sofabeds. One apartment (Basilico) is suitable for wheelchair users. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower and satellite TV (on request). The other buildings contain the house of the owners, the restaurant space and the spacious pool room. The landlady was awarded a price in the competition for the best female entrepreneur in agriculture in Italy. This price was awarded to her for the many facilities this organic agritourism offers. The pool is in a spectecular position, overlooking valleys and lower hills, exposed to the sun from early morning to sunset. The pool is totally fenced with a low child safe fence. The farm lies in the centre of the triangle Assisi (20 km), Perugia (25 km) and Gubbio (25 km) near to Valfabbrica. The Saint Francis Peace Trail passes here. The agritourism is surrounded by 130 hectare of land in a splendid position with breathtaking panoramic views. Here you can have a relaxed holiday or an active and instructive break. There are sheep grazing the land and some cultivation of cereals and olives. This organic farm produces extra-virgine olive oil, sheep milk and cheese (pecorino, ricotta etc.) and hand woven textiles. Prices of the Umbrian organic agritourism The prices for a week at this agritourism are as follows: Apartment Artemisia: Euro 300 in the low season. Euro 420 in the middle season and Euro 550 in the high season. Apartments Zafferano & Basilico: Euro 320 pw low season, Euro 470 pw middle season & Euro 600 pw high season. Low season is from 10 January up to 20 March and from 2 October to 20 December. Middle season is from 20 March to 3 July and from 28 August to 2 October and Christmas (20/12-10/1) High season is from 3 July to 28 August Prices are all inclusive (final cleaning, utilities, towels for use in the house), apart from heating in the winter.  Guests bring their own towels for the pool. How to book: you can send us an email indicating the period and apartment name and we will get back to you after having double checked the availability with the owners (for details see contact Villa in Umbria). The owners ask for either a 30% booking deposit with the balance a month before arrival, or 50% booking deposit and the rest cash upon arrival. Payment is via bank transfer. The security deposit is 100 euro. Further facilities are: -Shiatsu and other types of massage (€ 20,-) -Common hall with books, games, and toys for children -Cultural meetings/courses about organic farming/agricultural activities, use of herbs etc. -Tasting of farm products -Possibility to buy farmproducts; olive oil, cheese, textiles -Possibility to book an Umbrian tourist guide -Possibility to use washing machine and iron (€ 2,-). We enjoyed ourselves a lot at Il Biologico. We had some wonderful dinners and have been entertained quite a bit. A recommendable place! Regards, Eva & Gerard   Hello Willemijn/Saskia, We wnjoyed Il Biologico a lot. The farmer and his wife have created a small paradise where we felt at home. Being on top of a hill guaranteed a cool vbreeze even on the hottest days. The apartments do not really have their own private terrace, but since they are so relaxed and there is so much space around, this did not create a problem. They also have a vary curious mix of cats and dogs which our children enjoyed a lot. Maybe not eveybody enjoys their company, though. With kind regards, Dien and Maurits   Hello dear Saskia and Willemijn, We enmjoyed our holiday with Marjatta a lot. She is a lovely person, very hospitable and a very good cook. We stayed in the smaller apartment upstairs, small but good. There even was a watercooker, a hairdryer and a ventilator. Some remarks for improvement: The mattrass in the bedroom is not good. One can feel the spirals. Since I have some back problems we put the infloatable beds of the children on top of the mattrass and the children slept on the sofabad in the kitchen, which is of a good quality. It would be nice to have shutters or heavy curtains also in the kitchen. The children slept here and woke up early because of the sun light coming in! We did not particularly like the cats. They even tried to enter the apartment and came to the restaurant to look for food when people ate there. My daughter did not mind at all. She enjoyed the animals a lot and even wanted to take one of the dogs home with her. It was easy to book the house with you. Good luck with your business! Best regards, Stev    Dear Saskia and Willemijn, Last week we stayed at Marjatta's lovely agriturismo.  The apartment Basilico is beautiful, complete and we enjoyed the company of the other guests. Marjatta and her husband are very friendly and helpful. We had 3 wonderful meals at the restaurant. It' wasn't our best week though. We also have some negative remarks: ·         Lack of privacy. There is no private terrace for each apartment. It felt like being on holiday all together. ·         Noisiness. Upstairs one of the children woke up very early. Obviously he played on the floor and we enjoyed all his games in the morning. We didn't here anybody talking or crying or something but heard all steps, games falling etc. Nothing anybody could help, but it may be wise not to have very small children upstairs. We enjoyed Il Biologico a lot: clean, neat, owners are friendly, helpful and sincerely interested in us. The apartment was more then we expected. We appreciated the extra touch: some coffee, sugar, tea, soap, sun cream and a first aid kid. It was all there. We had a small scorpion in the shower, luckily it was small! It now plays hapopily outside. Also for these encounters one goes to Umbria! The directions were good and the dinner upon arrival was just perfect. The surroundings and views were heavenly. Marjatta is a good host and a very good cook. Her meals are delicious. The grounds are very large with a lot of opportunity to walk and enjoy the views and the nice villages in the area. We do recommend anybody to visit a sagra! We enjoyed a nice breakfast every morning together with some good tips from Marjatta! Our apartment had all we needed. The onlt thing that maybe can be looked at is the extremely small shower with curtain. The pool was very clean and it was very quiet here. The negative point, though they did not in any way disturb our holiday: there are a lot of flies and the dogs left something smelly behind now and then&ldots;. Nice appartment, great surroundings, lovely pool and Marjatta is a great host who cooks like an angel. Pity we only booked for a week. For our part it might have lasted 3 weeks. To thank her we sent Marjetta 'klompen' but we haven't yet heard from here. Hopefuly she did receive them. A small point of attention: from the main road the driveway of the agriturismo isn't pointed out very well. It is hard to see the sign. There is also some litter, wich is a shame, because the terrain and the agricultura are beautiful and well looked after. Also our compliments for your website. Splendid surroundings, very hospitable family, great appartment, wonderful food. After our arrival (we were very late) we were immediately able to join the table and enjoy our first biological meal together with another Dutch family. Save one night we (to give Marjetta a bit of a rest) we ate every meal at her place and loved it! I immediately set out to hunt for a Umbrian cookbook. In the meantime i also have a little supply of biological olive oil. A shame I only read about your favorite ice cream parlour in Perugia on returning home. When you wrote about it we were already in the area. Ginger ice cream with Spanish pepper I didn't really want to miss that. We enjoyed, Gubbio, Assisi and Orvieto. Apart from that we took a few delightful mountain hikes for wich every time we drove in the directions of Monte Subasio. We had a nice climb and relished the quietness of the mountain meadows. The owners are very hospitable and there is a nice informal atmosphere. Nice big apartment in great surroundings and a restaurant. The cooking course was great, also came at a great moment since there were some showers wich past unnoticed. Marjatta is a skilled cook and is very able at transferring her knowledge. Also Pasquale contributed to the introduction of some real italian pasta sauces by preparing two of his family recipes together with us. It was a nice and unique way to get to know Umbria.
