From 2011:Hello Willemijn and Saskia,
Our holiday was very good, nice apartment, friendly people who are keen to assist any time, so really great.
A small concern for me were the cobwebs everywhere and the grease plates on the walls, dusty bedside and filthy shades (with little dead insects inside).
I really dislike having to remark this, however I did expect the place to be cleaner in the beginning of the season. This did in no way reduce the full holiday pleasure I have had and I would not hesitate to book again here.
Best wishes, Petra
Let me start with the objections. We have had a few issues with the fridge, it was working fairly well but a few times it stopped working for two hours. Maybe due to the instable power or with the fridge itself.
The second consideration is that our children would have loved meeting other children to play with and we hoped this would have been the case. There were no other children.
Having said all this we have had a wonderful holiday. The ecological pool was a revelation. A lot more pleasant than chlorine and better for the skin. If it turns out to also be better for the environment, hurray.
The house was comfortable and stayed cool, plenty of kitchen ware. Having the jacuzzi was also a relaxing idea. Nice tranquil area yet shops are not too far (everything is relative).
All in all a superb holiday, as we had been looking forward to and for a decent price. We would rate this 4,5 on a scale of 5.
With best wishes, Peter
From 2010:
Hello Saskia and Willemijn,
First of all many thanks for your speedy and adequate service. We went to Umbria in the last two weeks of the month of May 2010. Umbria is fantastic and really much nicer -or more Italian- than Tuscany. Unfortunately we had a spot of bad weather the first week. It was so cold that we lit the fireplace for four days.
We had booked Il Podere but due to the heavy rains the last part of the road to the house was impossible to navigate by normal car. But no harm done. The very jovial owner Juglio has another house along this road called Il Borgo and to brighten us up he had prepared the biggest apartment for us and he proposed that we stayed there for a while.
Il Borgo is the first estate along the road and has a jaccuzi. It might be an idea to improve the signage. We were quite late due to accidents on the highway. We encountered the owner on his way down and he led us to the house, without him it would have been difficult to find the house in the dark. The second week the weather improved and we spend some time besides the pool with a book.
Il Borgo and Il Podere are a bit isolated which makes them ideal places for people looking for a quiet place to write a book or just to relax. After a week the road became a bit annoying, it is gravelled and it takes about 30 min to reach the main road so don't forget anything in the supermarket! It has it upsides though at nights we once encountered a fox and a porcupine.
Juglio makes his own wine. We helped him one morning in his cantina, very interesting experience. We took some of his stock. Best way to store wine in the end is to drink it. Good quality wine for only €5 per bottle.
The immediate surroundings are not that interesting but by car you can reach Perugia, Montefalco, Bevagna, Assisi and Todi within an hour. Lago Trasimeno takes about half an hour. We enjoyed the boat trip to the island. Tuoro is a nice place to spent an afternoon. Good restaurants, tips from Juglio are Lilo Tantino in Panicale and Maria. Don't miss the last one! It is a roadside restaurant along the road around the lake and as a tourist you wouldn't stop there. But the food is unsurpassed. Ask juglio. Also not to miss is university town Perugia, a city with an international and cultural atmosphere.
That's it for now.
Kind regards and who knows till next year, E and H. Amsterdam
Hello Saskia and Willemijn,
We look back at our stay with a lot of pleasure! Everything was fine, the apartment, the surroundings and the other tenants. We knew beforehand about the road and it is a pity that the last 3km are not asphalted but the surroundings are amazing and make up for it! We encountered no problems in the apartment, pool is perfect and the owners who now and then passed by to check upon things were extremely friendly and helpful when you asked them anything.
To summarise it was a fantastic holiday and in the future we'll make sure to pay it a visit in the future. Highly recommended!!
Thank you for everything.
Kind regards, S. , L. and children
From 2009:
Dear Willemijn and Saskia,
Looking back at the pictures, I remembered to write to you.
We are full of compliments about our holiday in Umbria. Both Il Borgo as Casale Marsciano were beautiful places.
The main advantage of Il Borgo wa the absolute quietnesss, the fabulous views, the pool and the hospitality. Julio gave us many good restaurant tips and was always willing to chat with us.
A small but about the apartments was the small terrace. We resolved it by eating at one of th epick nick tables in the shade of the trees.
Anything you need is present in the apartment, good beds, enough kitchen utensils and fly screens to keep insects out.
Karen
Dear Willemijn and Saskia,
We verymuch enjoyed Umbria. Beutiful surroundings. Good house. Hospitable and kind family. They even cooked for us and were always present if we had some questions.
I also liked your service, easy to comunicate and pleasant.
Two minor things: it was busier then we expected and there were a loto of flies.
It won't stop us from coming back one day, though!
Thank you and kind regards, Jessy
Reaction Villa in Umbria: We asked what they meant with "busier" and got the following response.
The surroundings were extremely quiet, and the agriturismo too. There were just more people then we expected. But it was all just fine, regards!
Dear,
Our holiday in Umbria was quite good.
The apartment was every thing we expected after reading your website and the guests comments of earlier guests.
It is an excellent location for peace and quiet (including now and then, the enormous noise of the crickets, beautiful skys with plenty stars in the evening.
The children had a very good time in the pool and the bubble bath.
This place can be recommended without hesitation.
Kind regards, Wim
Dear Saskia and Willemijn,
We enjoyed our holiday. From the pool there are wonderful views over the valley.
We thought the Cantina apartment is very dark and we had a lot of flies. Because of the flies we closed evrything with the result that it smelled a bit stuffy. The fly screens didn't close very well, hence why we closed the windows.
The shower could be renovated. The water doesn't clear well and the wooden underground isn't very hygienic. There is not a constant flow of warm water and the shower is very small. With small children it is not practical. We would like to advise the owners to invest a bit in a new, more practical shower.
Apart from this we had an excellent week with beautiful weather.
With kind regards, Paul and Martine
Hello dear Saskia and Willemijn,
The holiday is over. I'm sorry we did not meet at the drink you organised at Lake Trasimeno.
This is my feed back:
Il Borgo: we enjoyed this beautiful place. A small paradise. The house (Il Gelso) was small but cosy with a small bit of garden in front of it and next to it the large tree with terrace. The views are excellent. Pool is good. The bubblebath and sauna were a real luxury.
A big plus is Julio, a real good host. I injured my back and he even accompanied me twice to the doctor. He was my interpreter, but also a big help! Top class!
Point for improvement is the sleeping coach (bad matrass- Just hop to Ikea and get a good one there, I'd say!) We had two infloatable beds with us where the children slept. It would also be handy to have a cooker to boil water.
It was easy making the booking through you. Succes!
With kind regards, Stev
Hello Saskia and Willemijn,
We had a wonderful week at Il Borgo with Julio. Spacious apartment with fantastic views and a lovely pool. Julio was very hospitable and told us with a lot of pleasure about his farm. The pasta evening was good, as you can see from the pictures. To get to this place it is a pleasure to have to drive over a few kilomters of non asfalted country road!
We have also been to the Sagra Cinghiale in Migliano as were you, Willemijn, I read it on your blog. When we went there were a lot of people dancing and there was a good atmosfere.
Cari saluti, Brun, Kaz, Jip en Willem
Dear Willemijn and Saskia,
We had a lovely holiday in the apartment Cantina at Il Borgo. We wished for a place that was quiet, small scale, in beautiful surroundings and with good contacts with other guests. This was exactly what we looked for. It was good to refresh in the pool and to be able to bubble in the jacuzzi when it cooled down in the evening.
The apartment was fine, only the kitchen needs a serious check up.
I can easily recommend staying at Il Borgo and booking via villainumbria.com. It may well be possible that we use your services again. Thank you!
With kind regards, Niels, Arda, Marijn and Iris
From before 2009:
Dear Willemijn,
We've kept beautiful memories from our holiday in Umbria!
The pictures we made are a witness to that. Blue skies, splendid nature,.....
And yes we do have good news for the owners of the holday home where we stayed! The house we stayed in was very pretty, traditionally furnished, everything was as described on the website.
But especially the hospitality, the clean sheets, towels, the panoramic views, the pool, the nice chat with Giulio now and then all gave the feeling that one was coming home. THis way they managed to make you forget the 'dreary' hardened gravel road that leads to the house. I really do hope they will be able to expand their 'Borgo' and that they will keep their spontaneity!
Apart from that we really enjoyed meeting you in person at the wine tasting at Goretti, we now also know the faces behind 'Villa in Umbria'
Lots of greetings from family De B from Belgium
It was very lovely, amazing my husband says.........nice people to, Julio and his mother...... we enjoyed the house (very tasty furnished for a holiday rental) the pool and the silence (when the other guests weren't there :))..... thanks for the recommendation, also the butcher in the village is also to be recommended, got that one via Julio.....with whom we also had a pleasant conversation on the cultivation of fruit in Italy......in short, delightful,
regards mariet
Hello Saskia and Willemijn,
We really enjoyed ourselves. The drive over the sandy path is worth the trouble with in the evenings a chance to spot some wildlife (very nice for the children)
Splendid location and nice house. Wide fabulous view of the valley. We also enjoyed the sauna and jacuzzi. Especially in the evening there is nothing more pleasant than dipping into the cold water of the pool under a star sprankled sky after a visit to the sauna. And after that relax a while in the jacuzzi. Very hospitable hostess and host and a great pizzaparty with pizza's from the woodoven. To be recommended.
Regards, Myra, Michel en Megan en Sem
Willemijn,
The house was excellent. As were the pool, bubble bath and sauna!
Delightful/ Hans
Dear miss Lindeboom,
We really enjoyed our stay at Il Borgo.
The accomodation is tiptop and beautifully situated.
The pool and the outside jacuzzi are wonderful and a treasure for the children.
Our wellcome was extremely friendly and the owners are very helpful.
We will only keep very fond memories of our stay at Il Borgo
Kind regards, Koen & Carien
Hello Willemijn,
A short note from us after a splendid holiday. Yesterday we returned and we had a great time. Of both appartments, despite being somewhat remote, Il Borgo was the one we enjoyed most. It was exactly as we had envisioned our holiday spot in Umbria. (It was the first time in Italy and the first time we rented an appartment, normally we go camping) Guilio is a wonderful host and has told us a lot about the surroundings and what to see and do; mainly the smaller local activities and places were one is fed well and wine can be bought etc. At first the road to Il Borgo is a bit daunting, sometimes it is really steep, but after a few days you're totally adjusted. At nights on our return we, to our childrens delight, often spotted some foxes and also an owl.
In all we spent two wonderful weeks and came saturday we didn't feel like going home. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all you have done, it is very pleasant to, though I have a good command of the English language, be able to ask questions in Dutch and get an understandable response.
Thanks for all the extra documents you have sent us with tips regarding restaurants, trips and other things, we consulted them a lot.
Kind regards, Marjolein
Good morning,
Yes our return journey went well. Wensday the 20th our car did break down in Perugia. Scared the wits out of us. Flames licking from the engine........
After that we had to make arrangements (rental car, damage, transport to Holland etc......), not very nice!
The house almost made up for it. It really was a great spot and a splendid pool. Pity we didn't see a lot of the surroundings as we had to make arrangements. We'll make sure to return some day!
Janneke, Dick, Daan en Isa
Hello Willemijn,
We had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed Il Borgo.
What an affection and hospitality.
The only drawback is the accessibility (half an hour drive for a loaf of bread....) and the disagreeable road that leads to it.
Besides that only praise!!
Thanks for organising our booking
Warm regards Herma
Dear Willemijn,
I'd like to let you know we have had a wonderful holiday and were pleased with our appartments. They were all different and all had their own personality.
Kind regards, Gijs Prast
Dear Willemijn,
Thanks for taking care of booking the appartment. It was lovely. Spacious, conveniently arranged, great views and in the heart of the country.
Your explenations also were very pleasant.
One correction, the restaurant Morselli has shut down since one month. We thought L'Acquario in Castiglione del Lago very good: quiet and good food. Via V. Emanuele, 69 06061 Closed on Wensdays Tel 075-9652432
Warm regards, Leonie
Dear Willemijn,
We relished our stay at Il Borgo. The weather was lovely and also the house was beautiful.
Regards, Jolanda
