Umbria is the green heart of Italy |
|
Il Mulino provides accommodation in spacious apartments, each with terrace or garden directly outside the apartment. The large and flat garden has two large covered areas with garden furniture, set around a stunning 20 meter swimming pool. The Umbria accommodation is situated between Spoleto and Todi. An ideal spot for visiting the famous Umbrian towns, but also for long walks through the hills and woods.
The accommodation Il Mulino is made up of a total of 6 apartments, 5 of which are rented for holidays (one other is occupied by the owner). Each of the apartments has a kitchen and most have an independent entrance. Three of the four apartments on the first floor share a large terrace with outside furniture and umbrellas. The fourth terrace on the first floor has no terrace. The ground floor apartments all have garden furniture in front of the entrance.

The accommodation Il Mulino, is situated between Todi and Spoleto,
close to Montefalco and Bevagna. The village on 4 kms from the
apartments is 'Bastardo' (not a nice name, but I am not making this
up). Here is a good restaurant and you can find several shops.
The road from Bastardo to Spoleto passes Il Mulino. This is not a
busy road, but from the terrace and garden you do hear the cars
passing. There is a very small village on 5 minutes walk, with a
small grocery shop.

Back to the description of Il Mulino From 2009: Dear Willemijn and Saskia, We have just been back and I just wanted to tell you that we had an excellent holiday at Il Mulino. Everything was like we expected and the son of the owner Alessandro was a very pleasant person to deal with. And thank you too, for organising our stay. Regards, Petra
Dear Saskia and Willemijn, We stayed a week in one of the apartments on the first floor of Il Mulino. We enjoyed our holiday, but there are also some negative comments. We found it hard to find Il Mulino. It does not have a sign at the entrance. At first sight we were somewhat disappointed. It hadn't rained for weeks and the owner does not sprinkle the garden, hence it looked all dry and yellow. The premises are very large with a swing and a slide for the kids. The pool is wonderful, large and with a good shallow part for small children. Also the large covered areas around are ideal to find some shade. Here you can also use the BBQ and there is a table tennis game. There are enogh deckchairs, unfortunately without cushions. There are also plenty umbrallas around the pool. It is a pity that there is an old yellow painted barn along side the pool, nit well taken care off. The pool is clean and well taken care off, though I did notice quite some chemicals in the water (I wear contact lenses). The owner's son is friendly and helpful. He speaks English well and passes by everyday to check whether all is ok. He was always willing to switch on the pool lights in the evening which attracted a lot of guests and assured some good moments all together. Our apartment had it's positive and negative aspects. It was all very clean, the kitchen and furniture are fairly new. We missed some basic material in the kitchen. There is a good table with chairs. The bed rooms have good beds and enough space in the cupboards. Also the bathroom is fine. The towels were of the thin type (like in some hotels). Luckily we brought our own towels. We didn't like the living room. It is very sober and scarse. It has only one sofa and an uncomfortable bedsofa. There is a small side table with the television and that's it. IN the whole apartment there was not one painting or something like that on the walls. There is a complete lack of atmosfere. The worst we thought was the lack of natural light in the living room. There only is a small window above the door and that's it. Opening the door means that the neighbours who share the terrace in front of the house can easily look in. Very positive are the fly screens in front of every window. The restaurant the owner recommended in Montefalco we would not recommend at all! The cook couldn't make round pizza's (it was more like chirstmas bells!) and the ingredients were not fresh. On the main square are much better restaurants. The nearest village is Bastardo, which is not worth visiting, but there is a good supermarket. The Sidis in the inforamtion you sent, we could not find. The alimentari, the small shop with bar, at about hundred metres from the house, is good for the necessary shopping. The bar serves a good and economical capuccino. Il Mulino has the enormous advantage to ve very centrally located and near to Spoleto,Todi en Montefalco. In short, we surely had a good holiday at Il Mulino, but there were some obvious negative points that make sure that we will not return here. With kind regards, Mieke
From before 2009: Dear Ladies, Apologies for my late reply, we haven't been home that long. Comments on Il Mulino? The location is great, the apartments are exactly as described. 2 comments, the itinerary isn't totally accurate. We missed the pointer: first follow the raod signs to Foligno when coming from the main road. Which was a bit confusing. Secondly we thought the furnishing was minimal and cheap: the kitchen equipment was very basic and the couch was sagged and not comfortable. The surroundings were magnificent, lots of places of interest. We'll make sure to return to Umbria someday. Kind regards, Lucienne
Hello Willemijn, Once again had a great holiday. Our accomodation in italy was also this time to our full satisfaction and a bit more spacious. Wich is nice with 6 people. The owners are nice people and immaculate. Maybe we'll revisit someday. Will you please keep us informed for next year. We're thinking about 1 week in Tuscany and one week in Umbria. Kind regards, Marian
Hello Willemijn, After two weeks in Il Mulino we're back on the terrace in Amersfoort. Quite different. We had a great time. Nice appartment, great pool and a huge ground around the buildings. We thoroughly enjoyed the sites of interest surrounding the place. Cooking for ourselves was a joy because everything tastes so good (even from the supermarket) The contact with Alessandro, one of the owners, was good. He was attentive and happy that we were happy. It was a holiday to be treasured. Finally I would like to thank you for your rol in organizing our trip. Perhaps till next time. Kind regards, Mirjam, Joost, Loes en Busse
Hey Willemijn, Unfortunately our holiday has come to an end. Too soon as with all holidays! Regarding your questions I would like to note the following:
+ points:
- points: We have had a nice holiday. Alessandro was ever willing to answer our questions and help when necessary. It was nice he spoke English. We are not yet sure what we are going to do next year. We'll keep an eye on your site. You'll hear from us in the fall about our plans for 2009. By the way, friens of ours have booked with you after our recommendation. Thet were very positive about the experience. Till soon! Liesbet, Theo, Margot en Morgane
Hello Willemijn, Positive about Il Mulino were the pool and the garden, including the covered places to eat. Furthermore the preparedness of the owner to fulfill demands. Negative is the somewhat scant furnishing of the apartment. It would be a reason not to stay in the appartment again. I mean the minimal kitchen equipment. Water had to be boiled in a pan until we got a plug to use the watercooker we had brought and the ramshackle and uncomfortable furniture. The couch almost caused a hernia and the living room was quite spartan. Doorknobs wich were missing two years ago were still missing. It isn't really important but it tends to get on the nerves. The dining table wasn't sturdy and one of the chairs was near collapsing. The furnishing compared unfavorably with the furnishings of a B&B we visited earlier in the week in Tuscany. We will happily surf to your site to inform ourselves if we are to visit Umbria again, but unless substantial improvements are made at Il Mulino it is unlikely we'll revisit it again. Kind regards, André
Dear Saskia and Willemijn, We had a wonderful holiday. Il Mulino is a great place. Everything was clean, spacious and because of the heigh ceilings pleasantly cool, especially when you kept the shutters shut during days with lots of sun. Thought the assortment of tableware isn't that great if compared to what other guests had. When asked, the owner is very willing to replenish any shortcomings. Generally the owner is very helpful and pleasant. Only minor point, acknowledged by the owner is that it is a bit difficult to find. A clear sign on the road is really necessary.
