Getting to Umbria

Umbria in Central Italy, has its own airport, close to Perugia. Any time this airport could become an international airport. However, for the time being, one still needs to fly to other Italian regions, rent a car and drive to Umbria or take a train.

Sant'Egidio - close to Perugia
Forli - north of Umbria
Ancona - east of Umbria
Bologna - north of Umbria
Firenze (Florence) - north of Umbria
Rome - south of Umbria

All the above airports have car hire facilities. You need a car to stay at most of the houses, as they are all in the hills and no public transport passes nearby.

Train connections

The easiest stations for train connections to Firenze and Rome are either Terontola (just North of Lake Trasimeno, near Cortona), Perugia Ponte San Giovanni or Foligno (South of Assisi). If you are staying in the South of Umbria you can easily take a train from 'Orte'.

Visiting Florence by train is much easier and faster than by car, Rome also. The cities are not easy accessible by car, there is a lot of traffic and finding parking space is usually a nightmare.
