On the slopes of Monte Peglia lies a territory largely covered with woods. The first settlements date back to the Palaeolithic period, and the Etruscans also left substantial traces of their presence. The town rises on land that in ancient times was occupied by volcanoes, and is now a volcanological park, interesting for the presence of a unique mineral known as venanzite.
