La Torre
Unique holiday villa in Umbria for 6 people in two houses.
One house is an antique watchtower from 1400, beautifully restored in minimal atmosphere, tastefully combining antique with modern. The other house is just below the old tower, once a shed, it was restored into a light one-room house with kitchen and bathroom. The two houses together form the villa for 6.
This holiday villa offers excellent views, total privacy, healthy fresh air, a private pool and a tasteful interior design, unique in Umbria (Italy).
Holiday villa 'La Torre' is situated close to Pierantonio, part of the Perugia district. This holiday home, being an old watchtower, obviously offers the best views over the surrounding green Umbrian valleys and hills. You can also see the famous Antognolla Castle from here, with an excellent golf course.

The ground floor of the tower has a kitchen with fireplace and two entrances. The kitchen has a dishwasher. The stairs lead up to the first floor. This open space has two single beds. The bathroom is also on the first floor. The second floor has a small study angle plus a double bed and a build in closet.
The annex has a living room with double bed, double sofa bed, TV and dining table with chairs. Doors to the outside terrace. The kitchen has an oven, 4 pit cooker and fridge. Also the kitchen has a door to the outside terrace.
The holiday villa La Torre is very luminous inside due to the many windows and smaller holes that have been turned into small windows. The minimal style that was chosen to furnish this house also contributes to the pleasant atmosphere in the tower.

Dear Willemijn and Saskia,
the fact we have again booked for next year says all!
We do not have any remarks. It is a lovely holiday spot!
See you next year.
Best wishes, Rens & Angelique
Dear Saskia & Willemijn,
we have really had a very good holiday en enjoyed ourselves very much at La Torre. The grounds are stunning, the houses comfortable, beautifully furnished and perfectly maintained. The vegetable garden (very nice tomatoes, egg plants, zucchini, salad, …) the wonderful pool, the various terraces, pergola's … all really beautiful and made and maintained with care.
The village of Pierantonio is small, but you can find all you need there. We discovered Spello (fabulous according to us), Perugia of course and we did a Vespa tour around Lake Trasimeno (also really worth doing). Gubbio is lovely, Assisi … en we still have to discover the Southern aprt of Umbria. Enough reasons to return!
The owners are also extremely friendly and very discrete although it would be better to have a set time they come to do maintenance (cleaning the pool, water and maintain the garden) so one is not surprised by them arriving.
Furthermore our compliments for your professional approach, all was perfectly arranged.
Best wishes, Paul and Gina
2010:
Dear Saskia and Willemijn,
our holiday in La Torre was wonderful - the view and the isolation are incredible. The two houses are an ideal way to spend holidays together but not step on each other's toes, and there's also lots to explore by car in the area. Coming back after 3 years, we still loved the barbecue and, of course, the beautiful pool, but also the new shaded patio and the grapes on the vine. Hopefully the tomato plants will be up again soon, but the houseowner amply made up for that, surprising us with juicy figs both green and blue, and lovely plums. He came regularly tending the garden, so it was always easy to ask questions or have small things fixed right away. We hope to come back soon!

Dear Saskia and Willemijn,
Our stay at La Torre has been great once again. It was really nice to see that Antonio had taken all our tips and suggestions at heart. So this year no comments at all.
It is a lovely place and we will return in 2011!
Regards, Angelique and Rens.
Dear Saskia and Willemijn,
We have savely returned to (wet and cold) Belgium. The holiday was great fun and the locations were marvellous with an extra point for La Torre.
The wellcome by Antonio was very extremely friendly and we really appreciated it. Give him our regards.
Thanks for all and all the best. Patrick en Ilse - België
From 2009:
Dear Saskia and Willemijn,
We had a wonderful week in La Torre. Everything was well taken care of. What a beautiful garden! Lovely pool, nice covered terrace and amazing views around. Tha bathrooms were fine, the matrasses were good (from the beds, we did not use the sofa's).
Very friendly owner.
Kind regards, Barbara
We had a wonderful holiday at a stunning location, never experienced anything like it. Wonderful! Very impressive, especcially the first time arriving. The owner is a very kind man, who always respected our privacy when he came along in the evenings to clean the pool.
We were only two with two children. The children stayed in the annex, we stayed in the tower.
We only would like to add that should you be with more people and having to use the tower or the annex in 4, this won't be particularly comfortable. In every house there is a double bed and a sofa bed, allowing for 4 people to sleep, but the sofa beds do not seem very comfortable. I'd stringly recommend the owners to look after this and improve the standard of the sofabeds. It would add a lot to the comfort when staying with more then 4 people.
Say thanks to the owner for a lovely holiday and good luck with your organisation.

Dear Saskia and Willemijn,
The tower in Umbria is a fantastic house, we had a lovely holiday and even consider returning next year.
I do have to add, though, that the sofabed in the living, can only sleep one person. One of the children had to sleep on the floor. Not ideal. Four people cannot sleep in the tower. Apart from that we have no comments at all. The owner was very friendly and helpful.
Thank you very much for your help.
Marianne
Extra information from a second mail about the sofabed:
The sofabed in the annex is for two people. The sofabed in the tower look new, but is too smaal for two people, even too small for two children. Hence the Tower can sleep 3, the annex can sleep 4.
Dear Saskia,
Here a short review of our stay of one week in La Torre during a three weeks holiday in Umbria.
The location of the tower is without words, amazingly beautiful. Also the care that was taken while restoring the two buildings is obvious. The pool, the garden, the nice villages and towns in the area, make it a very attractive place for a holiday. The owner is a very kind person.
Some negative points limit our enthousiasm:
- The annex is quite damp which invites a lot of insects. We had scorpions and had to be aware of them all the time (towels, bath, behind bags etc. ) They are not dangerous but gave us a restless feeling. In the tower we did not have any scorpion at all.
- The sofabed on the first floor of the tower is of minor quality. Luckily we had our own matrasses with us to guarantee a comfortabel sleep. Maybe the owner can simply pace a bed on this floor rather then a sofabed?
- The presence of a dumping site in the immediate surroundings is a real pity. We couldn't believe it when we arrived and saw it in the far distance. From the house you cannot see it but once we smelled it and the passing by of the trucks do not seem to be in place in a landscape this quiet.
The negative aspects did not limit our satisfaction about our holiday, but I suppose it is better to be honest.
Next year we may return to Umbria, in which case we would like to stay in the Gubbio area, or maybe even more North to Le Marche. If you have something suitable for us, would you let us know?
With kind regards, Bart
From before 2009:
Dear Willemijn,
My apologies for this late note. Because of the daily hustle I had totally forgotten to call you regarding our experiences in August at La Torre.
It was a very agreeable vacation. The houses are well looked after and properly equiped with only one minus: in the tower as well as in the house downstairs there are settee beds instead of beds. I understand the justification for that choice but it does impair sleeping comfort. The bed in the tower is to small to be called a double bed and the mattresses on both beds are not worthy of their name.
Besides that nothing but praise. Wether it was the location, the furnishing or the owners, only compliments will suffice.
According to me this place deserves full recomendations but in this stage mainly fit for night owls and those who get by on cat naps.
Kind regards and again manny thanks for your tip!
Yves
Comment Villa in Umbria: the owners have promised to buy better matrasses.
Ciao Willemijn -
I am writing to thank you for your help in reserving La Torre for us. The 6 of us who went had a fantastic time, only to be saddened that we all felt it was too short when we had to leave. I have attached a photo of all 6 of us from our last night we stayed there. My wife, Laura, and I are on the right.
The guy on the left, Andrew, made home-made pasta with a sun-dried tomato and olive sauce our last night. It was quite good.
The landscaping at La Torre is very beautiful - you may want to think about updating the pictures on the La Torre webpage on the website, as the landscaping is more beautiful than what is shown on the webpage - the lavender plants are very big right now. Can you tell me the name of the bush that has bright yellow flowers? We saw it all over Italia. Also, we used some of the rosemary and mint in our dinners. And we spent 2 full days just sitting by the pool, taking in the sun and beautiful view. We enjoyed having the goats and cats there with us and walking around the olive grove.
The owners were very nice, and we were able to communicate about family. We enjoyed waking up each day and making espresso and going into Pierantonio to buy what we needed - we ate alot of cheese, tomatoes, prosciutto and bread. We also visited the Tuesday market at Gubbio, ate at a small trattoria in Umbertide, toured a cantina near Montefalco, and walked around Bevagna, Assisi, Citta di Castello, Montone, and Perugia. Each town had it's own little surprises that we loved (we actually planned on visiting Lake Trasimeno one day, but decided on Assisi after we saw it when driving on the E45).
Again, we thank you for helping us with the reservation. It was a trip we won't forget.
Grazie. Matt
Dear Willemijn,
Maybe a bit late but we have tremendously enjoyed our stay last summer at La Torre. The house was great, swimming pool for the kids marvellous and the surroundings are beautiful. All the things on the website were correctly stated.
Kind regards and again many thanks for the wonderfull location La Torre!

Dear Willemijn,
I have just returned from my holiday and I just wanted to thank you for everything that you did to make this the best holiday I have ever experienced. Mr Bruno was very helpful and the monastery was delightful and Mr Antonio's La Torre was just wonderful. We really enjoyed our time there.
Thank you once again.
Best wishes, SUE
Hello Willemijn,
We're back in Dutch surroundings and immediately miss the space the residence gave, what a delight to have so much space and so many things to see, every hour in the valley is different, we really loved it.
Did you speak to Antonio? Was he satisfied with the state in wich we left the building?
Thanks to you to for the great advice Willemijn.
Kind regards, Gerrie and family
We had a wonderful time and thank you for all your help.

Hello Willemijn,
We have been back for one and a half week from our perfect Italy-trip, so high time to let you know that we tremendously enjoyed our stay at 'La Torre'. What a fantastic place!!
The first days were spent relaxing and enjoying the quietness and views, the pool (wich we had all to ourselves), the crickets and the lizards, the comfortable watchtower, the terrace of the other house (a suggestion made by Antonio), the abundance of sunshine, the bees and the butterflies (lots of buzzing, humming and fluttering, the fireflies (nightly spectacle), a few scorpions (shoe inspections), eating al fresco, etc.
Later we explored the area.
Also thanks to your comprehensive information we discovered beautifully restored places like Panicale, Montone en Spello. In the afternoon seated on one of the many terraces we regularly feasted on the espresso's as can only be drunk in Italy and off course on the well known Italian ice cream of all sorts and flavours!!!!
The Umbria-evening was verry interesting and tasty!!! Nice to hear about the adventures of our fellow Italy travellers and off course the comprehensive information from Piccola Umbria and the typical italian fare.
All in all a very nice holiday.
Once again thank you very much and we wish you all the best wit all the ups and downs in intrigiung Italy. We'll keep up with it through your weblog!!!
Ine and Marc
