Outside La Villa
La Villa being a real farm, animals are part of life here. Leonardo the peacock lives in a tree opposite the house. He gets on very well with the cats and the four dogs. The sheep and chicken are kept away from the house, but they don't mind if you come looking for them, curious as they are.
One side of La Villa's garden consists of pine trees where a small sitting area has been constructed, providing a welcoming cool area in summer. The other side has the ecological pool and the best views one could wish for. Quiet green woody hills interlaced with the odd field. In one corner you can see Citta di Castello. The property is still in Umbria, but literally borders Tuscany.
Children can play at La Villa until they drop. Apart from the pool (with whirlpool in one corner), La Villa has a volleyball field, bocce, soccer field and a few games for younger children.
The property is a jewel and often rented for marriages (which the owner is proud to have organized many times up to the finest detail).
This villa is situated 15 minutes drive from Citta di Castello and on 3 km from a 6 hole golf course with well equipped riding-school. The area is on the border between Umbria and Tuscany and from here within one hour one can visit most important and famous cities of North Umbria and South/Eastern Tuscany.
The ecological pool of La Villa has wonderful views over the Upper Tiber Valley (Alta Valle del Tevere) and ample terraces. There is a lot of garden furniture and umbrellas. Moreover, the pool area has two toilets and both an inside and outside warm water shower. Lastly there is a small bar with big fridge where one can keep drinks and some snacks.
La Villa has a cool forest (pineto) with several tables in an area that can be lit at night. The rest of the 20 hectare are occupied by a big vegetable garden (for use of the guests), a vineyard for both red and white wine, fruit trees, an olive grove, chestnut trees, woods and some areas are cultivated.
Activities that can be organized (only if you feel like it)
The enthousiast owner is not only very good at organizing your marriage in Umbria (good to know if you are looking for an extraordinary event), she also organizes (prices upon request):
- hiking tours with a guide who knows, apart from the route, also many details on the local flora and fauna. Don't want a guide? Patrizia will give you a detailed map and you can wonder off on your own as well. Prefer to go by bicycle? Also this can be arranged.
- cooking lessons directly at La Villa, learn how to prepare a few basic Umbrian dishes
- chestnut events - help the chestnut yield and taste which wonderful applications they have in the Umbrian cuisine
- wine making - the agriturismo produces wine. Come to see how they do this.
- mushroom guided tour, starting at La Villa.
- truffle searching; the property has truffles and an experienced truffle hunter with his dog will take you around to show you how it all works.
- want to be picked up from the airport? A chauffeur driven minibus for up to 15 people will pick you up and bring you safely to La Villa.
These services and activities are not included in the price.

2011:
Positive –
House Comfortable.
Rooms good size.
Cool house
Location great with excellent views from the house and pool.
Excellent child friendly pool.
Owners friendly and helpful
Kids play area great for small children.
Negatives-
Cooker – poor particularly the gas pressure.
Dogs – Owner has 4 dogs. We liked them although it would have been useful to have known they were around.
Insect life – Warning vicious horse fly abound!
Extra for electricity. I would have preferred this being in the overall cost as I had to have plenty of cash to hand at the end of the holidays.
Before 2011:
Willemijn,
I have asked all participants and none of us have any negative experiences. (except for the weather, it was quite warm, but not always swimming pool weather)
So only positive remarks:
Great house and surroundings, where everyone was able to find a bit of privacy when needed; during the bad weather we were verry happy with the living room and dining room, plenty of space and the enormous dining table was ideal in those circumstances.
Everything is available in abundance, lots of pans, loads of tableware, all types of kitchen utensils and even inflatable toys for in the pool. To make sure we would have everything we brought some of our own things but in the end didn't need them at all. (except pot-holders and tea towels, but we didn't really look for them)
Support and presence of Guiliano was very pleasant; he was certainly very discreet (as was Patrizia) regarding our privacy, but always there to offer assistance when needed. (and immediately took action) and off course his wonderfull vegetable garden. This and the presence of the peacock and 2 dogs gave the whole a nice 'farmy' atmosphere.
Tip: make mention on your website of the fact that there is an old gardener (tenants don't like to have an owner in the house, but tenants with (young) daughters aren't always happy with a gardener; I was immediately reassured when I saw Guiliano)
We wanted to leave quite early and Patrizia came even sooner than agreed so we were able to leave realy on time.
Your efforts in the renting of the house; all the info on your website, the ease of emailing in Dutch, the questions i was always able to put to you and to wich you always dutifully replied, solving the problem regarding final cleaning and off course everything else you did securing our place in this beautiful house.
Please make sure to thank Guiliano again on behalf of us. Your italian is certainly more fluent than ours. Most of the times we had to use hands and feets and short italian words/sentences to make ousrselves clear, but we managed every time. (When the sheep escaped in the evening i was able to point this out so he and his oldest son managed to get them back in time. I really have admiration that such an old man is that busy, he works long hours)
Also thanks to Patrizia for the present she gave us when we left. Nice gesture. It was nice doing business with her.
And lots of thanks to you to. We have already passed the house and your website adress to other people. If any references are needed please do contact us.
Kind regards, Lenie
We cannot thank you enough for an incredible week. The house was far more wonderful than we had imagined, and Giuliano was great too.
If possible, please tell Patrizia that her babysitter friend, Adelaide, was fabulous too - the only reason we did not call her again was that we wanted to spend as much time with the baby as possible.
A million thanks, Nell
Dear Willemijn,
Thank you for all your assistance in securing our accommodations with Patrizia at La Villa. Everything went smoothly and our group thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
Special thanks go to our hosts, Patrizia and Giuliano, for being so accommodating and making for a memorable stay. Giuliano was a delight and the three dogs a pleasant enjoyment. The cooking lesson put on by Rosetta and Patrizia was perfect and we enjoyed the all-day experience. The villa was wonderful and the views of the Umbrian country side from the villa were spectacular. Our only disappointment was that we wish we could have spent more time at the villa but with so much phenomenal sites to see, we were compelled to sightsee each day.
Please pass along our thanks to Patrizia and Giuliano for their warm reception. We wish that we were more conversant in Italian but, alas, we need more lessons. Fortunately, we begin additional Italian lessons in October.
Thank you again. Dan
Dear Willemijn:
I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed "La Villa". But most of all how much we enjoyed Patricia, Barbara and of course Guliano. They were just so kind and helpful, we really appreciated how they took care of us.
Randy
Saskia and Willemijn,
What we thought of the house:
Magnificent views, really wonderful to walk across the grounds and be able to look into the valley,
The house has lots of space, inside and outside.
Lots of entertaining possibilities for children and grown-ups (slides, child's bicycles, merry go roud, table tennis, table football, football field, jeux de boules)
The pool was really stunning (also in the evening with the lights on).
The places to rest all around the house were nice (under the trees, the hammock near the pool, under the arbour, at the jeux-de-boules site, in front of the house etc) and underlined the feeling of space.
In the house the bedrooms provided ample space and were also very clean and well laid out.
The house is ideal for a large group of grown-ups and children
A few minor points:
The kitchen was messy (not clean, coffee machine that didn't work, dishwasers that didn't work well)
The dogs around the house were sometimes annoying: they were clearly used to go into the house and beg for food during meals etc. Among the dogs was a very cute one but also a smelly old dog.
The gardener who was to respect our privacy wasn't always doing so. My sister in law thought him a bore as he came to pick figs while she was sunbathing in her bikini.
Another inconvenience was that this gardener (Guliano) didn't understand one word of english. Akward if one wants to speak to him!
But all in all: we tremendously enjoyed it, the house is great, we hade some laughs over Guliano and alas the old man dind't mean to do any harm as did the smelly dog. We really liked being in the house, at the top of the hill, a sense of freedom wich really makes you feel you are away from all the stress. A place to relax. We thought it was a pity we had to leave. A verry good price in relation to the quality.
Patricia and family
