Holiday homes in the Upper Tiber Valley of Umbria in Italy  The 'Alta Valle del Tevere' is Italian for the Upper Tiber Valley. An area with friendly hills and a few low mountains, dense woods interlaced with olive groves and farming fields, lovely villages and a few bigger cities. The alta valle del tevere is known for its excuisite truffles and mushrooms and the cinghiale dishes (wild bore). The area has many characteristic old villages and still has many remains of the Etruscans and 'Umbri'. One can still witness old way of living of the farmers. Traditions still survive here and seem to have found a solid place in modern society. To visit: Montone, Citta di Castello, the centre of Umbertide, the Niccone valley, Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Lerchi, Monterchi, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Pietralunga and the many castles and borghi one can see dotted in the green countryside.
