Description

A modern vacation home with 4 bedrooms, set in an age old olive grove  and part of a working farm. Rome is at only 80 km distance and the  villa is at walking distance from a small village for your first  groceries and morning cappuccino.

The  villa has all comforts of a home away from home and has a nice pool  where you can do laps (5mx15mx1.80m). The pool is separated from the  villa by a fence.

The views are fantastic from this vacation villa  located in a quiet spot, surrounded by bird song, yet only 500 meters  from an ancient little town, Penna in Teverina, with several shops and  two bars.

A gentle path leads up to the magnificent "lap" pool in  natural stone and sand-coloured tiles behind the house, protected by a  natural forest, dotted with olive trees, with an even greater view of  the valley and the tile roofed back of the house and the "limonaia" (lemon  house).

The vacation home is ideally situated for all kinds of  activities. One can go shopping for small groceries on foot and have a  coffee in one of the bars of the beautiful medieval town of Penna. Orte  is 15 minutes easy drive and from here the train to Rome takes you into  Rome centre in 40 minutes. You can visit towns like Orvieto, Viterbo and  Amelia all within half an hour drive. There are many old medieval towns  and extensive woods, excellent quality food and wines.

A stay in  this villa makes it possible to attend to all nice aspects of life, like  culture, nature, gastronomy and last but not least, relaxing.

An  excellent cook can be arranged, she can come and cook at the house, or  also bring freshly prepared food and only finish the cooking for you (or  you can do this if you prefer).

The villa sleeps 8 to 10 guests comfortably.

Rebuilt  from the stones of a ruined farmhouse, this stupendous villa is an  expression of traditional design and modern efficiency, merging with the  landscape and framing its many vistas with local stone, terra cotta  tiles, and chestnut beams.

The house sleeps maximum 10 guests in 4  bedrooms (two double bedrooms and two bedrooms with a bunk bed and a  single bed), 3 bathrooms, 2 fireplaces, a living room downstairs open to  the ample modern kitchen, and another sitting room upstairs.  Set into  the hillside, the house has immediate access to the garden on both  levels. There is no TV and no micro wave. There is wifi internet.

One  enters in a spacious and modern kitchen and immediately next to it is  the living room with open fire place. To the side of this floor is a  double bedroom and a bathroom with shower. Large doors open up to the  covered terrace overlooking the garden and the valley beyond.

One floor up there are 3 bedrooms. Two of these each have a bunk bed and a single bed  that share a bathroom with shower. An open studio area in the corridor  with access to the back garden leads to the master bedroom with a  double bed and a bathroom.

The pool is open from June to September.

Uitstekend bevallen

Vriendelijke groet, Hans Nederland

Really enjoyed our stay

We really enjoyed our stay in Casale Penna. The house is charming and spacious, big enough for two families with kids. The view from the patio is stunning and the pool is great. Agnete Denmark

Beautiful home in a great location

Hi Sylvia Casale Penna is a beautiful home in a great location. Even though the website says it has beautiful views, I was stunned when I arrived - the view is spectacular and I spent many hours just looking at the hills at different times of the day. The pool is excellent for swimmers as well. 15m is very unusual in a holiday villa and we used it for exercise every day. Maura seemed very pleasant and met us with a friend who spoke English, so she could explain everything. We didn't need to ask her for much help, as things ran very smoothly. Only 2 things would improve the Casale - 1) bigger or thicker towels in the bathrooms, as the ones provided were very small and thin. My two sons (one is 1.9m tall!) found them hilarious but pretty useless! 2) the chairs around the pool aren’t very reliable - I think they are quite old and collapse regularly. Again, we are a very good-humoured lot and found this quite funny, but it could be a bit dangerous if people fall back on the stone. A good tip would be to use anti-mosquito devices at all times. All of us got bitten badly in the first few days but we got more efficient about keeping windows/doors shut all day if we were outside in the garden area and bought a lot of coils to burn in the evenings. Maura advised keeping doors shut and mentioned the lizards (and small animals) but she could also say take care against mosquitos. Regarding other reviewers’ comments: the noise from the railway didn’t disturb us at all - it was a very quiet rumble and it does go on all day and evening, but it isn’t a problem. The WiFi connection, I think, worked perfectly when there were only 4 of us in the house, with 4 devices. In the first week, when there were more guests, it dropped out occasionally so there may be a limit on users/usage. We managed to play golf twice at Acquapendente, (http://www.acquapendentegolf.it/index.html) about 1 hour away, just beyond Orvieto. The people who run it are very friendly and welcome day guests. They don’t speak much English but are very open and even offered to go and buy us Pizza from a local pizzeria when their bar was shut for the day. It is a 9-hole course and great for beginners. I am a novice so it was just right in terms of size. I think that’s all. I will definitely come back to Umbria and recommend this villa. It was great to be so near Rome as our sons couldn’t stay the whole 2 weeks and we needed to go to the airport a few times during our stay. Next year I might look at coming north as I would like to visit Perugia and Assisi. Kind regards and thanks for finding this villa. Sheila Parry
