Orvieto’s Duomo

Any excuse is a good excuse to visit Orvieto. It is one of my favorite places in Umbria to visit. It is a great place to shop, you’ll find local crafts, ceramic shops, nice bars, shops and, last but not least, some good restaurants. But the most impressive sight of Orvieto is the Duomo.

Orvieto’s Duomo is famous worldwide and attracts many visitors. Orvieto is also called “the city of the cliff”. It is perched on top of a tufaceous rock plateau. Nowadays you need to pay 3 Euro to get in. I find it a bit ridiculous to pay entrance to visit a church, but it is amazing and surely worth the visit. The frescos, the gothic facade, the chapels… it is all beautiful.

I’ve made some pictures during my last visit to Orvieto and its Duomo:
