Deciphering the Menu

Menu misspelling

Lots of restaurants in Umbria have translated their menu into English, a lot of times not hindered by any knowledge of it…. Even if you are able to decipher it as English it often doesn’t sound very good. Bit of wild boar to the parfum of juniper sounds a lot less scrumptious than ‘bocconcini di cinghiale al ginepro’ (another thing we found on the menu above). I don’t claim to be able to do any better. Translating menu’s is a skill and most ingredients will neither in English nor in Dutch sound as toothsome as they do in Italian. Misspelling in italian by the way is a ‘errore d’ortografia.’
