The Summer is over and Autumn is here. Fall is the season of amazing seasonal food. October is the month of the grape harvest and November is the month of the new olive oil. This year is a very good year, the grapes are wonderful, and the olives didn’t suffer from insects or bad weather. We’ll have fantastic olive oil and good wine this year!
The hunting season started, and people are looking for truffles and mushrooms and picking chestnuts. Fall in Umbria is an interesting gastronomic period, especially for those who love eating typical Umbrian food.
In Spoleto, I went for lunch with old friends. And on a rainy Autumn day nothing is better than eating a good pasta dish: “Strangozzi” with cacio cheese, pepper, and truffle. Cacio cheese is a cheese from central Italy: Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany. The Strangozzi is a typical pasta from Spoleto. The Strangozzi or “Stringozzi” (the way they call it in Terni) are narrower than tagliatelle. You can eat them with truffle, spicy tomato sauce, or just tomato sauce or any variety you think appropriate.
We ate at restaurant 9Cento. A restaurant I didn’t know yet. At 9Cento Casual Restaurant the pasta is homemade. This location is in the center of Spoleto, and plenty of locals eat there. It is intimate and comfortable and the food is good. Here you can taste typical flavors of traditional Umbrian cuisine.
And what can be better than a nice meal accompanied by a good glass of “Trebbiano Spoletino”, a typical wine from the Spoleto area?
I can warmly recommend this restaurant to any visitors to Spoleto. Besides the Strangozzi they also prepare other good pasta and meat dishes. Just give it a try!
How I long to visit this town. And Spello too! 🙂
Both are amazing, Spello and Spoleto. Hope to see you in Umbria soon 🙂
Hope too!
