Fruit trees.

Gardening the Umbrian way.

Earlier this year a friend gave us some, what I thought of as ‘canes’ with a few tiny springily roots on them. Figs, hazelnuts the lot he said. Now I know that you can make big trees out of almost nothing but certainly in the Umbrian climate one would like to have some real roots on the plant.

I planted them anyway not thinking a lot would come of them but diligent watering and some good conversations have worked magic. What began as little knobs turned out to become nice green leafs. It will take some years still but the black fig trees are on their way.
