Last weekend was party time in Tuoro sul Trasimeno, a small village near the house of my colleague. As normal with these village parties there were quite a few places where one could do some ‘liver maintenance’ or fill the stomach. We could choose from wild boar (pasta or wild boar stew, both very good), fish from the Trasimeno Lake, ‘fagioli con le cotiche’, that is beans with pork skin for the layman. When done well it tastes a lot better than it sounds, when visiting Umbria (and you see it on the menu) I urge you to give it a try. Furthermore there was grilled meat of course and a long list of sweet things.
Thirst could be quenched by handing over 50 cents or 1 euro. You’d receive a plastic cup filled with vino rosso. Despite the low temperatures there were quite a lot of people eating and chatting, great atmosphere. The later it got the more friends everyone seemed to have.
The most brave appearance was by a group dressed as what seemed Roman soldiers, no thermo clothing here, most had quite an area of bear skin to show off.
