Didn’t hear this one before but it already is a favourite.
‘Pere cotte’ are, well you guessed it, cooked pears, easy uh?
Now how would you call someone who sells cooked pears?
Yes a peracottaio!
This leads to the proverb, “fare la figura del peracottaio”, meaning behaving stupid or unintelligent.

Today I have an appointment with a certain person and I’ll make sure to us this proverb, I hope he knows what I mean…….

It is said that the origin is found in the proces of cooking pears which is allegedly so simple that anyone can do it, so even very unintelligent people can sell cooked pears.
