Summer 2014 is coming to an end. The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer.
We had a lot of rainy days in July and August which is very uncommon. Even the elderly people here can’t remember that much rain during summer. At least, that’s what they say. The Umbrian landscape is still very green with many flowers along the road and in the fields. This is common in May and June, but not in August when the landscape usually is yellow and gold.
Yesterday evening we were invited for a dinner at Agriturismo Tuoro. Agriturismo Tuoro is one of the holiday homes on our website. It has eight spacious apartments and a swimming pool. Family, friends and guests were invited for the pizza and barbecue. Both owners were present, Benedetto and Ferdinando. It was Benedetto’s birthday and every year he organizes this “birthday dinner” outside on the inner square of the old farm, once a convent.
Family members made some excellent pizza’s: the classic Margherita and a white pizza with onion, rosemary, salt and olive oil. Delicious! Ferdinando prepared the sausages on the barbecue and there was plenty of wine to accompany the food and help fuel some interesting discussions after sunset.
We met an Italian family from Trieste in the North of Italy. They were holidaying at the agriturismo. Why did they choose Umbria? “Umbria is beautiful because of the small mediaval villages, the landscape and the good food”. We couldn’t agree more!

Ciao! very nice blog 🙂 You’re right, it was really a very strange summer for us! Too much rainy days and an unexpected green landscape at the end of the summer. Where is yellow and gold? 🙂 Do you live in Tuoro?
Ciao Ilaria, vivo a Tuoro e la mia collega Sylvia a Castiglione del Lago. Where do you live? Saskia
